SALT + SEA is a visual exploration of the feminine spirit in dialogue with the natural world—a merging of body and landscape that challenges society’s rigid constructs around womanhood. Within each image, the interplay of form and environment narrows the chasm between the culturally-imposed limitations on women and the raw, uncontainable truth of the nude form—a space where her essence is unbound, wild, and free.

The sand and rocks symbolize the harsh, unyielding terrain of cultural expectation, while the water evokes the fluid, adaptive nature of femininity. This series offers a homologous study of the female body and the ecology of the ocean, both mysterious, powerful, and inextricably tied to cycles of renewal and transformation.

The ocean’s rhythmic tides mirror the cyclical nature of the female experience. Just as the moon’s gravitational pull shapes the sea, so too does it mark the passage of time in the menstrual cycle—twenty-eight days of quiet revolution, binding blood and water in a sacred rhythm. Across cultures, salt—one of the sea’s most elemental gifts—has long been associated with femininity and healing, revered for its preservative and purifying qualities.

The use of black and white within the work speaks to the eternal dance between sun and moon, life and death—light as vitality, shadow as reflection. These opposing forces form a necessary balance, echoing the polarity in our current social and economic structures, particularly the enduring disparities between genders.

To honor the feminine as the “salt” of our communities is to acknowledge her as both wound and remedy, keeper of ancient wisdom and the force that heals. She is the sacred element—preserving, purifying, enduring. Balance, then, is not a luxury but a lost rite, awaiting restoration. These images are offerings, reminders that the body is no ground for conquest, but a sacred archive- a temple of power, memory, and myth—a vessel through which the primordial speaks.
